The Chief Engineer, James L Blue, is my Great-grandfather. Very interested to read your quote from his widow. Any more detail about the local newspaper article and the 1959 report would be very much appreciated.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03583466789992620199noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-105170975263281101.post-39037359269463850102015-06-28T14:44:35.407+01:002015-06-28T14:44:35.407+01:00Hi Gary - thanks for getting in touch. If anyone would like more information - get in touch with me.
A very sad tale indeed. However I can tell you that the descendants of
Donald Robertson are all well aware of the story. He was my maternal
grandfather. The full story of the Belmore (earlier name ‘Flying
Scout’) was carried in the ‘Tele’ on 13th June 1959. That report was
written by my uncle, also named Donald. Unfortunately I have no knowledge of the other survivors or their
descendants.
The Greenockianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05241154433325603580noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-105170975263281101.post-18713142892010200782014-02-10T09:51:49.951+00:002014-02-10T09:51:49.951+00:00Very moving and so sad. It is wonderful how the town rallied behind their own and took care of them. We had the same experience here in Australia in the aftermath of the Black Saturday bush fires in 2009. We are a country of some 23 million people, yet managed to raise tens of millions for the survivors. A monumental effort. People are good, and most have their hearts in the right places.Robyn of Ozhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11830917656529638295noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-105170975263281101.post-84722243191272661902014-02-07T10:17:13.961+00:002014-02-07T10:17:13.961+00:00That's a very moving tale, nicely told.
