Surprising architectural remnants

Considering it has had many uses over the years, including the fact that it is currently a furniture warehouse and shop -  H G Pyper, Greenock - the former West Blackhall Street Chapel built in 1823, still has some wonderful architectural details.  You can find the building at Grey Place in Greenock.

I was amazed to see just how wonderful and intact some of the interior details were.  The cornice with rams heads is spectacular.  You can read the history of this wonderful 200 year old building on a previous blog post here.

The three beautiful circular windows are stunning and have amazing decoration.  These are on the west wall of the former church, in what was probably once the chancel area.  Some of these details will be later additions to the original 200 year old church building.

The inside of the building is a furniture shop, but it is a credit to the owner, Hugh Pyper, that these historical details have been kept.

If you are visiting Greenock then don't pass by this lovely building - pop in for a look.  At the back, (across from Aldi) in part of the former church, is a fabulous cafe - Cafe Mor.  It is a lovely friendly place to sit and have coffee or lunch.  There's even a wood burning stove to keep you warm on chilly Greenock days.  Well worth a visit.
