  3. Cool! «Louis» likes anything to do with the Navy, but especially submarines.
«Louis» remembers his excitement the first time he saw a sub come under the Golden Gate Bridge. At the time, the U.S. Navy had a sub repair base at Mare Island in Vallejo, California.

There is a restored World War II submarine, the U.S.S. Pampanito, at Pier 45 in San Francisco. This ties in both with your submarine post and the post below about drowning because the Pampanito rescued a group of British and Australian POWs from the South China Sea in September, 1944.

  4. Fabulous pic - did you know it was going to be there, or did you just strike it lucky? I'm wondering if this is one of those ex-Soviet ones that have been offered to the SNP? (Isn't it funny, the way rumours start..?!)

  5. My husband worked on submarines for years and traveled extensively to Scotland. I had to show him this. He believes this is a British sub probably out of Faslane.
You were definitely in the right place with camera in hand! Great capture!

  6. Re your question about "noticing something in the second photo": are you referring to the fin of the sub behind the tugboats?

«Louis'» guess is that the rudder and the rear diving planes form a cross around the propeller at the stern of the sub.
